We are accreddited by PHECC as a Recognised Institution since 2014 for delivery of their training courses. We are also a training partner of the Road Safety Authority to deliver Emergency Services Driving Standards for each level including Level 3 Emergency Blue Light Driving.

Cardiac First Responder - Community

Cardiac First Responder Community Training

Structure

This is a short course designed to teach you basic life support skills (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) so you can respond to someone who has collapsed.

Duration

The Course usually takes between 3 to 4 hours.

Award Types

Candidates who successfully complete the CFR - Community course are awarded a Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council Certificate valid for 2 years.

Fee

Course fee depends on the number of candidates taking the course but generally ranges around €80 per person.

Cardiac First Responder - Advanced

Cardiac First Responder Advanced Training

Structure

A cardiac first responder Advanced level is a person trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) who can respond to someone who has suddenly collapsed. Entry to the CFR Advanced level is aimed at persons who may be working in the emergency medical services, fire and rescue services or a healthcare professional working in healthcare facilities or in the community. In addition to responding to patients in the course of their duties responders can provide lifesaving skills in their homes and communities. In addition to the competencies taught at CFR Community level, the Advanced level course teaches the airway management: suctioning, use of an oropharyngeal airway (OPA), supraglottic airway (SGA) uncuffed devices, bag valve mask (BVM), pulse checks, roles in team resuscitation and oxygen administration.

Module 1: Basic Emergency Care

On completion of Module 1 the student will be able to recognise the signs of a life threatening emergency and can initiate basic life support to the person who suddenly collapses or is choking. The student will also learn the indications and administration of Aspirin.

Module 2: Airway and Ventilation

On completion of Module 2 the student will be able to describe and demonstrate the use of an oropharyngeal airway (OPA), non-inflatable supraglottic airway (SGA), a bag valve mask (BVM) and oral suctioning to ensure a patent airway and effective ventilations are maintained. A person will also be able to describe the correct and appropriate application of O2 using a range of devices. The indication for SGA use is limited to adults in cardiac arrest only.

Module 3: Accessing and Use of an Automated External Defibrillator

On completion of Module 3 the student will be able to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) without delay in accordance with the appropriate PHECC CPGs.

Module 4: Safety and Communication

On completion of Module 4 the student will be able to activate the Emergency Medical Services and communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals in the continuum of care for the patient.

First Aid Response

First Aid Responder Community Training

Background

PHECC has designed the First Aid Response (FAR) Standard to offer appropriate training to individuals and groups who require a first aid skill set including cardiac first response. This standard is designed to meet first aid and basic life support (BLS) requirements that a person known as “First Aid Responder” may encounter. The FAR Standard meets the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) requirement for occupational first aid training for the workplace. The Child and Family Agency (TUSLA) guidance also recognises FAR as the standard for child care.

Irish Heart Foundation Heartsaver CPR AED Course

Heartsaver CPR AED Training

Structure

The complete Heartsaver AED Course takes approximately 3 hours to complete the full course and teaches the basic techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and the relief of choking for adults, children and infants.

The Heartsaver AED course follows a practice-while-watching video format and is led by instructors who will provide feedback and guide you through the lessons and help improve your CPR technique as you practice on a manikin.

Duration

The Course usually takes 3 hours to complete.

Participants can opt to take the adult portion of this course only (which covers adult CPR and use of the AED) and this can be done in two-hours.

Award Types

Participant who can demonstrate high quality CPR at the end of the course will receive an IHF/AHA Heartsaver AED course completion card which is valid for two years.

Pitch Side First Aid

Cardiac First Responder Community Training

Structure

This is a first aid course designed to teach you basic first aid in sporting or "picth side" scenarios.

The Course is usually structured like below but can be altered to suit individuals on the course, for example particpants may be heavily involved in rugby so may want additional focus on shoulder injuries.

Duration

The Course usually takes between 6 to 7 hours.

Award Types

Candidates who successfully complete the CFR - Community course are awarded a Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council Certificate valid for 2 years.

Candidates will also recieve a Murray Ambulance Service Pitch Side First Aid Certificate valid for 2 years.
